Threshold – the beginning of a new, important phase, event or change in life.
There’s a particular feeling, intrigue really, I get at the start of a year when I don’t quite know what’s ahead. While I have absolute clarity on my ‘why’ and my ‘what,’ I’m not 100% sure on ‘how’ it will roll out. This excites me, stepping into the unknown. It’s a form of trust, knowing that whatever it looks like, it will offer growth, insight, laughter, and rich experiences. This year, 2026, is no exception. Although I know this one’s going to be a game-changer for me. Finally, shake off some of those niggling, limiting beliefs and really step into my authentic power. So yes, change is in the air. And, yes, change is always in the air. But ‘now’ feels very different – like the world will never be quite the same again. We’re in the midst of a major, rapidly accelerating technological overhaul. We’re almost seeing daily developments in artificial intelligence and transformation. It’s exciting and a little scary. ‘Old’ systems are breaking down. Challenging as this can be, I’m thankful and excited for it. It’s my belief we can’t keep doing what we’ve always done and expect a different result. We need fundamental systems change. There are pockets of disruption causing global chaos, alongside old-school leadership models that are dead in the water and need flushing out. And I’m not talking about the ‘old-school’ high integrity way of leading, when you looked someone in the eye and shook on the deal. I’m talking about patriarchal, hierarchical power and control approaches. And then there’s the blossoming fear and unrest that comes with it. People feeling disconnected and untethered in a time of great change. Unprecedented times, when no one really knows where all this is going to land. It tends to bring out the best and worst in us. In short, we are standing on a threshold of a new beginning - certainly, for me personally. Where this leads will come down to the choices we make … or don’t make. On saying that, it’s January the first, and I’m in no rush to make any big decisions, other than ‘how’s the weather for a trip to the beach?’ I’ve learned not to force clarity; I usually miss something important when I do. The interesting stuff tends to show up when I slow down enough to listen, not just with my head, but with my whole self. So currently, there’s no big agenda for the next few weeks. And this feels great. Spacious. Quietly exciting. Rather than launching into plans or resolutions, I’m starting this period by quietly paying attention. Noticing where I’m operating from habit, where I’m reacting instead of choosing, and what changes when I lead from awareness instead. I have made one concrete commitment. Well two ... actually three. This 30-day blog series exploring these insights. Showing up for my daughter – she’s got a big year ahead too. And injecting more fun into my days. Whoop! While I’m certainly not pretending I’ve got this all figured out, I do trust my inner wisdom. I’m approaching this year with a quiet curiosity. What becomes possible when I focus on my why and my what and trust that the how will unfold when it’s meant to. If this resonates, take it as a warm invitation to join me, as we pause, reflect, and see what emerges. Tomorrow, I’ll be exploring what it might look like to slow down when the world keeps speeding up.
